Cupping

Cupping involves glass cups which are placed on the body and create suction to the skin and underlying tissue.

Cupping can be used to disperse and break up stagnation and congestion in the blood, fluids and soft tissues of the body. This technique can also help to detoxify the skin and improve circulation.

Cupping may be beneficial for:

  • Sore tight muscles

  • Coughing and phlegm stuck in the lungs

  • Pregnancy related muscle and joint pain

  • Post illness recovery related to the lungs and chest

Vagus nerve stimulation

About VNS

Vagus nerve stimulation is a non-invasive tool used to stimulate the vagus nerve, which is the main nerve in the body responsible for calming the body and mind.

The device uses gentle electrical impulses delivered through a small pad clipped onto the ear, encouraging the body and mind to relax, digest and rest.

VNS can be combined with acupuncture or massage.

Potential benefits of VNS

Stress reduction: Helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting calm and reducing stress.

Mood support: May aid in managing symptoms of anxiety and stress.

Improved digestion: Enhancing vagal tone can support gut motility and function.

Sleep regulation: May help improve sleep quality by calming the nervous system.

Light therapy (LED)

About LED

LED light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light—typically red and near-infrared—to support pain relief and anti-aging benefits.

Red light helps reduce inflammation, enhance circulation, and stimulate cellular repair, making it useful for easing joint and muscle pain.

Potential benefits of LED

In skincare, LED promotes collagen production, improves skin tone, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into tissues, supporting healing at the cellular level.

LED therapy is non invasive, gentle and can be combined with other treatments

Moxibustion heat therapy

About moxa therapy

Moxibustion, a form of heat therapy, where compacted dried plant material is burned near the surface of the skin.

The aim is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi (energy) in the body, warm up local tissue, dilate blood vessels to improve circulation and dispel cold.

Moxa is usually made from the dried leafy material  mugwort (Artemesia argyi or A.vlugaris) and is burned in the form of a stick (like a cigar) which the practitioner holds close to the body. Moxa can also be applied to an acupuncture needle in the form of a charcoal type nub that sits on the end of a needle.

Moxa

Potential benefits of moxa therapy

Moxa heat may help with issues related to cold that can lead to pain and stiffness.  From a TCM perspective cold can enter the body from the environment or due to a diet that is too cold in nature or due to poor circulation.

Moxa heat therapy can help to drive out cold and restore healthy circulation to specific parts of the body where cold has settled.  This can be a useful treatment during recovery from illness, injuries or post surgery.
